Our Eyes are the Gateways to our Soul...
and thus should be treated with the utmost respect.
I went 27 years never missing an annual eye examination. If you knew me well during this long period in time, you would never have guessed what would follow. I fell off my horse and missed eight consecutive years of preventive appointments with my Optometrists.
During my long hiatus though, I never missed a monthly eye insurance payment despite the fact I was clearly not utilizing my benefits.
I'm excited to announce I'm back in the saddle! As I recently visited with Dr. Jennifer Conn at Professional VisionCare in Uptown Westerville, Ohio, in preparation for this blog post! She's a new doctor to this location and was absolutely lovely to interact with. Doctor Jennifer reported my eyes to be in tiptop shape throughout my entire appointment; thank goodness, as I was surely nervous!
Optometrists do so much more than just prescribe and sell contact lenses and fashionable eyeglasses. As the health of our eyes are so closely linked to the overall health of our body. Doctor Jennifer of course evaluated my visual acuity, reporting findings of practically 20/20 vision! She also took additional steps inspecting for any signs of ocular disease, such as, cataracts, diabetic retinopathy, glaucoma, macular degeneration, and common conditions like dry eyes. During comprehensive eye exams, where the inner eye tissues are closely evaluated, numerous systemic diseases, if present, can be detected; for instance, hypertension, diabetes, and high blood cholesterol.
It was such a relief to learn from Doctor Jennifer that my eyes remain in wonderful health! During full dilation, I believe I correctly scheduled my follow-up appointment for 2021! I'm certain I will remain on my horse and will be looking forward to catching up with my Optometrist, Doctor Jennifer Conn, in 2021!
Of course, I will continue to prioritize my monthly payments for eye insurance through Anthem, which is very reasonable in my opinion. Starting this year, January 2020, I have an individual eye insurance plan, Blue View Vision, currently coming in at $8.10 per month. If you're in need of an eye insurance policy and believe Anthem BlueCross BlueShield might be a good fit for you also, consider reaching out to their Vision Member Service number: 866.723.0515
My favorite conversation with Doctor Jennifer was on the topic of electronic devices and blue glowing screens! She reported 20/20 vision herself but chooses to rock super cool frames to protect her eyes from screen exposure!
I currently sport a pair of Gamma Ray Optics blue light blocking spectacles almost daily for my writing, gaming, and computer work. Doctor Jennifer recommended BluTech if I ever desired an upgrade in my future.
These types of glass are so very important on the topic of ocular health and overall wellness. As artificial blue light from electronics and energy-efficient lighting negatively impacts our sleep wake cycle, causes eye strain, irritation, fatigue, headaches, and migraines; all of which decrease our daily potential and productivity. Studies also report improvements in night driving, the importance of which I can relate to.
