Mindful Eating

Updated: Jan 28, 2022

* SPOKEN WORD added on 10.26.21 *

The energy of the sun, water, soil, land, animals, seeds, added nutrients or chemicals, farmer(s), assistants, transportation personnel and groceries, are all infused into the end products we call food.

In mindful eating we evaluate all of the energy that creates our food sources to ensure we make the best selections for our beings and those we choose to serve.

In my opinion, It's important to set aside time to research farms and farmers' markets in our areas. In a perfect world we would visit the farms and markets, meet the farmers and their assistants and purchase directly from them if they meet our standards.

For those living within the United States, www.localharvest.org is a great resource to help us get started on our mindful eating adventures.

Avocados, pineapple, frozen sweet peas, onions, eggplants, asparagus, kiwis, cabbages, cauliflower, cantaloupes, broccoli, mushrooms and honeydew melons are all considered to be pretty clean and if you desire to purchase them conventionally. I will not try to dissuade you.

Outside of the list provided above we should consider choosing organics more often than not to avoid the buildup of the following items within our beings: conventional synthetic farming chemicals, antibiotics, growth hormones, animal byproducts and GMOs (genetically modified organisms).

Buildup can lead to a decreased immune system, allergic reactions and disease, for a few examples.

By selecting organics we increase our intake of vitamins, minerals and antioxidants. We protect ourselves, farm animals, wildlife, those who harvest and future generations by being mindful of energy resources, soil, air and reproductive quality, water and food supply.

I am excited to introduce Stratford Ecological Center, Educational Organic Farm & State Nature Preserve! "Visitors are welcome to explore the land, hike the 4 miles of nature trails, visit the livestock, tour the gardens and greenhouses or explore the creek, pond, prairie, swamps or State Nature Preserve. Farm products are available for sale seasonally, based on availability. Stratford offers workshops and classes for children and adults, annual festivals, farm tours, school tours, farm camp and family programs."

As far as grocery stores go, Raisin Rack, is my personal favorite! I love the location, the staff and the energy they have and continue to put into their shopping experience.

In mindful eating we can always take it one step further to perfect our being! Ayurvedic Medicine notes that we should only accept prepared or cooked foods from someone who truly loves us. Grandma's secret ingredient of love is no joking matter. If we are in tune with our being and the beings of others, we can feel the chef's vibrations within the food and if we choose to consume the food, the chefs' vibrations become us.

In India, chefs are known to have a spiritual background to increase the positive vibrations found within the foods they prepare and serve to others. On this note, be mindful of where and how often you choose to dine out.

I am excited to announce that as of late July 2019 I am finding myself to be very helpful in the kitchen of The Mark on the Square in Downtown Newark, Ohio. I am helping to evaluate the menu and ingredients to improve the experience and health of those who choose to dine at The Mark! Being that the General Manager is my mother, Daina, my educational background and opinion is valued greatly. When I am in their kitchen, I am excited to acknowledge that I have a spiritual background. I enjoy playing meditative music in their kitchen as I intentionally infuse my positive energy and love into the small plates I prepare for the community of Newark.
